OUTFIT nr 8: back to the 80s

Did I jump on a time machine? Oh no, I just went vintage shopping.

I found this awesome 80s style jacked yesterday at Rokit Vintage and it was just pure luck. I went there because of my dad and my actual plan was to help him find a nice jacket and not buy a thing for myself. And that's actually what I did but well between all the male jackets was suddenly this little beauty hidden. I immediately fell in love and had to try it on. The size was perfect, the colour harmonized with my eyes and the prize...it just cost 15 pounds! I just had to go for it and I am so happy with it! It's so comfy, the material is really good and it's quite a unique jacket. What do you think? Would you wear it or is it to old fashioned for you? Let me know what you think.

LFW AW 14 - Ashley Isham

The second show i attended at the fashion week was the show of Ashley Isham. 

the designer:

Ashley Isham was born in Singapore but moved to London in 1996 to study at Middlesex University for his fashion degree. His debut collection launched in November 2000 and he has continued to show at LFW each season. He is know for strong geometric tailoring, decadent fabrics and the signature draping. He has a special way to combine high-octane glamour and contemporary styling. Isham is a designer that is recognized by those in the upper echelons of fashion and has an army of followers who devoted to his vision. His contemporary and classic dresses are simply born to be worn on the red carpets. Little wonder he was the official designer at the 2004 BAFTAs and boasts an increasingly high profile clientele ranging from stars of film and television, catwalk, music, British and international royality. Celebrities which include Florence Welch, Christina Aguilera, Princess Zara Philips, Kylie Minogue, Cheryl Cole, Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle, Lady Gaga and Paloma Faith.

The show was also held in the beautiful hall at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout venue. Ashley Isham quoted “Are flowers the winter’s choice? Is love’s bed always snow?” by John Clare as the lead concept for this season. The collection was extravagant but with a contemporary twist. Many of the pieces were ideal for day and night dressing. The collection screamed of femininity and glamour. The show started with tailored tweed dresses and skirts mixed with thin knits and coordinating ropes. There was clearly an edge breaking away from traditional usually associated with these fabrics, for example a tweet one shoulder dress combined with a floral print silk. The second part of the show consisted of pieces with lots of beautiful rhinestones, which he applied onto sweaters, silk dresses or even wool leggings. The Runaway Bride touch at the end was the cherry on top. The whole collection was a proof for Isham’s breadth tailoring skills. He clearly had fun experimenting with this collection and tried to bring something unexpected 

models: 

The biggest difference between the two shows I saw was the different look of the models. The models for Ashley Isham's show were really tall, thin and beautiful. They looked more like professional models. They just didn't look like...ordinary people. I felt really tiny when they passed me. 

my opinion:

Well that's an hard one as i know he's a really good designer who makes lots of master pieces and the cloths really looked nice but it's just not my style. I can't think about any outfit of the show i would wear. Maybe the blouse from the second picture but that's it. But that's just my personal preference. I would describe his cloths as too classy for me. But I really liked the hats the models wore.

LFW AW 14 - Street Style

fashion week, the time all the fashionistas dress up in their most beautiful and individual outfits and head towards somerset house. their mantra is: "see and to be seen". of course i jumped at the chance to shoot some street styles. my favourite outfit is definitely the first one with the black/white midi skirt. i love every single piece of it and her hair. what do you think? are you also dressing up for fashion week?

LFW AW 14 - Hema Kaul

i finally made it to attend some shows at the london fashion week. it was quite exciting as it was my first time. i mean i dipped into some fashion events before but never had the chance to see a show live. a friend managed to get me two invitations (thank you!) and the first show i attended was the one of Hema Kaul. 

the designer:

Hema Kaul is quite new in the business. She is a fashion graduate who is frequently on the lookout for up and coming trends which are inspired by her favorite designers Alexander McQueen and Coco Chanel. She tries to mix and match different materials to create her little masterpieces. Hema Kaul officially launched her international collection during London Fashion Week SS 2014. Her dresses speak to women who like her are confident to fulfil given responsibilities but never stop seizing opportunities to become better and pursue what they really love. 

show: 

The show was held in the beautiful hall at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout venue. The perfect venue for the 1950s vintage glamour inspired collection. It started with a combination of nude and champagne, silver and mauve coloured outfits of high-waisted, satin pencil skirts and chic peplum tops. Followed by darker colours like scarlet and midnight blue for velvet tops, floor long dresses and tailored trousers. Throughout the show the outfits had a touch of 1950s glam with a modern twist complemented with Kaul’s signature of intricate detailing of lace and embroidery.  Hair and make-up embraced the vintage glamour feel, as all the models wore dark red lipstick and groomed, waved hair pulled back.

What I really liked about the show was that Hema Kaul didn't choose super skinny models. The models were of course all thin but looked healthy and beautiful. I didn't recognize any of the models despite of Georgia Hobday. 

my opinion:

I was pleasantly surprised by the outfits. I really liked the combination of the materials and as you might know I'm a big fan of lace. I would have chosen for the champagne and nude coloured outfits another colour but that's just my personal preference as I can't really wear light colours. The dark outfits, especially the red once where more my cup of tea. My favorite dress was the red dress from picture 3.
